DIFP warns of Medicare scams during Open Enrollment Period

Seniors and other Medicare beneficiaries should watch out for scam artists cold-calling them during the open-enrollment period, according to the Missouri Insurance Department.

Officials with the state Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Regulation are warning Medicare beneficiaries to be on the lookout for unscrupulous insurance agents during the open-enrollment period, which ends Dec. 7.

Missourians on Medicare need to be especially skeptical of "cold calls" in which unsolicited callers will ask about the beneficiaries' information.

The best way for Missourians to get free, unbiased counseling about their Medicare benefits is to call Missouri CLAIM at 1-800-390-3330 or visit www.missouriclaim.org.
