CLAIM and Americorps: partners in volunteerism

Getting the word out about the great service opportunities at Missouri CLAIM is getting easier.

CLAIM in August 2011 began a partnership with Americorps, a national volunteer network. Under the agreement, AmeriCorps will refer interested volunteers to CLAIM. Successful candidates will work as certified counselors and earn benefits.

Any CLAIM counselor can apply to become an Americorps counselor; and the positions are open to non-counselors as well. CLAIM-AmeriCorps counselors serve for one year in that capacity, and earn a $5,000 cost-of-living stipend. Depending on future funding for this program, renewing for additional years is a distinct possibility. Successful AmeriCorps counselors may also earn up to $2,775 in scholarship reiumbursements for education.

Each year, AmeriCorps offers 75,000 opportunities for adults of all ages and backgrounds to serve through a network of partnerships with local and national nonprofit groups.

CLAIM is currently accepting applications for AmeriCorps positions around Missouri. They are:

  • Region 1.7.1 Carroll, Chariton, Linn, and Livingston counties
  • Region 2.1 St. Louis City
  • Region 2.2 St. Charles County
  • Region 2.3 North St. Louis
