Have a health question? Ask the University of Missouri Health Sciences Center's Staff for Life. This site provides a frequently asked question list by condition, as well as related resources to find out more information about your health needs. If you can't find the answer to your health question on the site, you can e-mail a nurse on staff at the Health Sciences Center. If you have an e-mail, they will e-mail the answer to your question directly. If no e-mail address is given, look for your question and answer to be posted anonymously on the site. OnCall Online does not provide a medical diagnosis. According to the site, answers to medical questions are "structured to help you better understand the medical topic."

Healthfinder is a consumer health and human services information web site from the United States government. Healthfinder can lead you to selected online publications, clearinghouses, databases, web sites, support and self-help groups, and government agencies and not-for-profit organizations that produce reliable information for the public.

PubsOnline
View and order publications from the National Cancer Institute for patients, the public and health professionals. Most publications are available in both English and Spanish.

Online Cessation Services

QuitNet
Includes quitting guide, national directory, pharmaceutical product overview, web resource directory with links to online resources (programs & self-help, such as Quitters.com, the No-Smoke Cafe, NicNet and more). Registered users can access customized advice, peer support, quitting tools & tips and referrals to live counselors.

Committed Quitters
This online personalized stop smoking behavioral support plan is offered free with the purchase of a Nicorette Starter Kit or a Step 1 or Step 2 box of Nicoderm CQ. It lasts for 8-12 weeks and is designed to help break the psychological dependence on cigarettes while using nicotine replacement (gum or patch) to relieve physical dependence.

Freedom From Smoking Online
This online smoking cessation program sponsored by the American Lung Association is an interactive course designed to educate and modify the behavior patterns of a smoker. Freedom From Smoking Online can be accessed day or night, seven days a week, on any schedule the smoker chooses. It's ready whenever a smoker wants to start the process of quitting and it's free of charge.

FIND
Foundations for Innovations in Nicotine Dependence site includes information and resources, links to other sites, a message board and a chat room.

Try To Stop
Online cessation assistance provided at no charge by the Massachusetts Department of Health through an interactive "Quit Wizard." This web site also includes information on support networks and other helpful web sites, facts about tobacco products, cigarette ingredients and secondhand smoke, expert advice, success stories and "e-cards" to send to friends or family members.

4-Week Online Program
Catherine Salveson's four week online smoking cessation program, developed by a Registered Nurse. Information and access is available from WebMD.

Taper Off
Web-based service to assist smokers who want to quit gradually using "scheduled reduction." The site is free to try for four days, after that the fee is $25 for up to 90 days of continued access.

American Cancer Society
ACS web site includes a Tobacco Control section with information related to health, quitting tips, their FreshStart smoking cessation program and their self-help resources.

American Lung Association
