business with federal agencies on-line quicker and easier.

get services electronically and increase government productivity.
Administration
on Aging (AoA)
The AoA is the federal agency with the charge of serving
the nation's 43 million seniors. They are proficient in
developing resources, providing advocacy and in delivering
services to the elderly and long term care populations.
A good resource available on their site is the Eldercare
Locator. The Eldercare
Locator is a nationwide, directory assistance service
designed to help older persons and caregivers locate local
support resources for older adults. The Eldercare Locator
can put you in touch with state and local information anywhere
in the country. You can also call Elder Locator toll-free at (800) 677-1116.
Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
The CDC is an agency of the Department of Health and Human
Services. Its mission is to promote health and quality of
life by preventing and controlling disease, injury, and
disability. Their web site includes a searchable Health
Topics database that is very informative.
Department
of Health and Human Services (DHHS)
The DHHS is the U.S. government's principal agency for protecting
the health of all Americans and providing essential human
services, especially for those who are least able to help
themselves. The Department includes more than 300 programs,
covering a wide spectrum of activities.
Department
of Veterans Affairs (VA)
The VA web site is a resource that provides information
on VA programs, veterans benefits, VA facilities worldwide,
and VA medical automation software. Documents are easily
accessible and linked from their table of contents, as well
as searchable by keyword.
Eldercare Locator
Eldercare Locator is a public service of the U.S. Administration on Aging. It connects older Americans and their caregivers with state and local sources of information about senior services.
National
Institute of Health
This Web site provides an online Health Information Index
where you can find information on a variety of diseases
and health topics. The site can be very useful for the Web-savvy user. But for the average user, it takes a quite a
bit of clicks/navigation to find what you are looking for.
When you choose a topic (for example, pneumonia and aging),
the site will direct you to the main page of the institute
that is responsible for information on that particular topic
(in this case, the National Institute on Aging). The user
then has to locate the information they are looking for
on the the individual institute's page. There is no consistent
format between the institutes, so ease of finding the information
you are looking for is variable. The best option is to perform
a search on the individual institute page.
Social Security
Administration
Social Security Online has a lot of resources that help
you understand the current program and to frame discussions
of the future of Social Security.
Searchgov.com
This useful web site allows you to do a search of a particular
topic of only government sites (local, state and federal).
The search capacity of this site is pretty good. It is also
a good reference site if you want to find a particular government
site and can't remember the web site address.
